hello ive got a 1994 s10 blazer vin code W. i have two problems with the transmission. one. its taking longer than usual to shift into drive or reverse. i have to wait just a few seconds before i hit the gas for it to shift. two. if i shift it manually like at a stop i put it into first then at 10mph or so i put it into 2nd then i hear grinding crrrrrr. kinda like running over a pop can on a bike and gets stuck on the wheel and makes a loud noise and yea. its not really loud but noticeable. i can drive it all day in OD or D just fine NO problems at all. i can downshift from OD TO D -3-2-1 whit no problems. with my other blazer before i totaled it, it was a 93 and i could shift it manually 1-2 then 3 then D shifting before the rpms get to high and worked perfect. i have not a single other problem driving it. highway driving is fine. transmission fluid when hot is where its supposed to be. so what do you guys think the problem is. thanks

I had a similar situation with an old Dodge pickup in terms of the delayed engagement of the transmission on cold starts. It ended up being the check valve responsible for holding fluid in the torque converter. It was recommended to me at the time to use a bottle of Lucas Trans Fix. It did make a noticeable difference in that particular problem. I wouldn't use it as an all in one fix for a faulty transmission, but it's worth a try.
Also, I have to bring this up because many have checked the transmission fluid incorrectly in the past. It must be checked with the whole vehicle up to operating temperature with the engine running, transmission in park, and the vehicle located on a flat, level surface.

well i decided to check the transmission fluid again and its at the right level but this time i used a white towel and it came out a redish grey when smeared. so should i pull the pan and change the fluid and filter or will that turn my tranny into an anchor.

well i decided today just to change it. so while it was a pain in the *** to get the pans off these old style blazers i found nothing in the bottom of the pan. but the fluid was really dark almost pure black sitting in the drain pan. but when you stick your finger in it... its redish black. and kinda has a bit of a burnt smell to it.
so i went ahead and put it all back together, put new fluid in about 4.7 quarts and drove it around a bit and no problems so far.
so how long do you guys think my tranny will last?
im planning on siphoning as much as i can get out of the dipstick tube and put some more new in. in a few weeks

No. Just put the Lucas in there and drive it. Bought a car that slipped when hot.. added Lucas and tranny cooler. Drove it 5 years, 160 k miles more never touched it and never lost any fluid either
