My 2003 Chevy Blazer passenger side sun visor vanity cover is broken at the one hinge. How can I fix that and where can I get parts with quality and good price for this? Hope to not to have to replace the whole thing.

 

Does anybody know about sun visors with vanity mirrors out there?

 

Both sides were broken on mine....I saw no way to fix them and ended up getting a set from a salvage yard via ebay. Just looks like a bad design.

I thought about trying to use a complete new hinge, but went the ebay route instead.

The price is ridiculous though. It seems that you can only order the sun visor as a set, not individual parts. That sucks, since I also have one that is broken. Not the same part as you, though.

 

The mirror and cover will actually pop out of the visor. I was able to save some money buy buying a replacement mirror with cover only on eBay. Be carefull as they are Drivers side and Passenger side specific.

 

It pops out easy enough, you need to remove the light covers first to get at the plastic clamps inside. Be careful not to break them however.

As for the hinge. I used JB weld and a small section of a coat hanger. You have to have a fair amount of patience to do this however.

Option #2 is to check the bone yards in your area for a replacement. Matching the interior might take awhile tho, and don't be surprised if you find more broken ones than ones that are actually fully functional.

This place takes bone yards from all over the country and you can one stop shop here. Enter in the year, make, model, part and any other information that can be helpful to your search. You can even call some of the places to see if they have the part you are looking for. I found a spare tire winch for $35 on here. Opposed to the over $200 to get one new.

 

Mine was just missing the two pieces of metal that holds the hinges in place. I used 2 brad nails for the hinges. I just cut it with a needle nose pier. I chose to use the ends with the flat tip just to help it stay in place and it worked perfectly. I placed it in there with my fingers, then used the needle nose pier to push it in completely. You may need to wiggle the vanity cover a bit to thread it through.

 

Until I can figure out a way to fix the hinge, I just took some Romex house wire, used about 1/4 inch of the insulation and jammed the insulation over the switch post and pushed it snug into the visor hole. It seems to hold the switch in the "OFF" position quite well. Passenger side cover broke a couple years ago, and driver side broke this morning. The Romex insulation seems to be the perfect size to keep the switch depressed in the "OFF" position.

 

Just go to the JY, I think I paid $4 a piece for them. You will need a torx bit to replace them.
