Grinding noise from front end while driving!
I have a 2000 chevy blazer 4wd with 172000 on it. While I am driving I have a grinding noise coming from the front end. It does not matter if I am in 4wd or 2wd. When I turn left it stops. I feel it in the driverside floor board. I am replacing the front socks this weekend. If you have any ideas that would help.

I had a similar problem on my 1993 S10 Blazer 4x4. It turned out to be the wheel bearing in the front left (driver side) wheel had come loose so the bearing were not seated properly. Made one hell of a racket at speeds of 30 mph or more. We removed the wheels, and disassembled the front hub to get at the bearings. Greased them up and reseated them. The problem went away. You will need a 36mm impact socket and impact wrench to get to those bearings.

I will have to try that this weekend. I have all the tools I will need my brother is a mechanic. Thanks for the help. I will give an update this weekend.

FYI, I've replaced 2 right wheel bearings on my fathers 1999 blazer.. Your symptoms sound similar.

You can get the correct impact socket at a local auto parts store. The axle nut on my blazer was 36mm and I'm guessing it won't change much between close model year trucks. However, check with the clerk and he will tell you which one it needs to be. It has to be a deep impact socket though because the front axles poke out a bit and need to travel into the socket so you can get to the nut. I got my socket at autozone but almost any auto parts should have it.

where did you get those bearings for your blazer? did the auto parts have them in stock or did you have to order them from a dealer?

Sorry it had taken so long to reply. I just got my blazer back together. My issue was the hub for the driver side. My inner bearing was fine. It had not been making any noises all day so far. I would like to thank you all for your help.
You can get the bearings at any auto parts site they might need to order them. But they can get then for you.
