1999 4.3 Engine timing
Had to change int man gaskets and inj spider. Car ran like poop because I didnt get the dist back in correctly. Didn't realize the dist spun. tried to adjust position of rotor shaft. now car doesn't start.
Got engine to TDC on #1 cyl, when i put dist back in, she wont line up with the position, and when I can get the rotor to line up, the dist will not set down. I think I need to adjust the oil pump drive so the dist will set correctly. Anyone know how to do that? Seems the drive does not wish to turn and I am afraid of breaking something. Any help greatly appreciated...

That oil pump drive in the engine should turn very free with a long standard screwdriver. If you put a screwdrive in it and it doesn't turn, your in deep dip. Something is jamming it & that problem has to be solved before anything else. I took a huge outside lawn cusion and put it on top of the engine & lay down with a flashlight and screwdriver looking into the distrib hole to adjust the pump drive. Did you mark where #1 is somewhere on the engine so you'll know where it is with the cap off?

I used this method and hit it first time out of the box.

Magmotor hit the nail on the head. Good response.
