Broken Hazard switch

Broken Hazard switch
I searched and found a decent write up on changing out the heater core on my 99 Blazer. I seen the warning about the hazard switch on top of the steering column and still managed to break the switch. I found a write up to replace the switch. I went to the Chevy dealer to get a new switch and the guy tells me it is part of the turn signal switch and that $15.00 part will instead cost me $234.00. Did I miss something? I see the switch on e-bay and in the parts stores. Is the hazard switch not replaceable by itself?

Thanks, if I can ever gey the dang steering column cover off i'll do that. I found 2 screws on the bottom (below hazard switch), took them out and the cover would not come apart. I will look at it some more tomorrow after work.

you can buy the hazard switch from rock auto. its not the best quality but it will work. i bought 2 seeing as i have 2 blazers. i fixed the broken one and had a spare. then i realized that the one that i "fixed" didnt really fix anything. so i had to yank it back out, which broke it, but i didnt care because i had a second one. the second one i basically took apart before i installed it and stretched all the springs behind the contacts. that is why the first one didnt work for me. it wasnt making good contact on the inside and i only had blinkers and a 3rd brake light. no lower brake lights. if that makes sense. just get the one from rock auto, take the contacts off, stretch the springs and you will be good to go.
